The Gardeners Rest Front

Sheffield's Community Pub

In June 2016, the Gardeners Rest was put up for sale. In response, a group of regulars formed the Gardeners Rest Community Society (GRCS), inviting others to invest and help bring the pub into community ownership through a share offer.

The initial target was £100,000, but the response far exceeded expectations - £237,600 was raised in total from 382 investors. With additional support from the Plunkett Foundation and Key Fund, the society successfully purchased the pub. It has been run as a community-owned pub since October 2016, with the building and fittings secured in October 2017.
